What is a doula?

Vad är en doula?

A doula is a person who may have personal experience with childbirth and who has experience supporting other parents before, during, and after childbirth.

The doula has no medical responsibility and typically does not have any medical training. Therefore, the doula does not provide any medical advice or make any medical decisions. A doula's primary task is to give the expectant parents the most positive birthing experience possible. Studies show that parents who have had the support of a doula are more involved in the childbirth process and feel more satisfied with their experience.

A doula does not replace or take the place of a partner but is there to highlight and strengthen the partner's role as the primary support for the woman.
