How to use the pregnancy oil?

Our organic pregnancy oil has many uses. It works just as well for massaging an itchy belly during pregnancy as it does as a moisturizing oil for the face. Best of all, it's so gentle that you can also use it as a softening oil for your baby with a clear conscience!

Examples of what you can use Plume pregnancy oil for:

  • Applying to your belly, breasts, buttocks, and thighs where there is a risk of stretch marks
  • Caring for existing stretch marks
  • Massaging the scar after a cesarean section
  • Using on an itchy belly when the skin stretches
  • Applying to the perineum, known as “Perineal massage”

Reduce the risk of tearing during childbirth

A common concern among many expectant mothers is tearing during childbirth. To reduce this risk, you can regularly massage the perineum with oil. Performing perineal massage from week 34 of pregnancy makes the skin around the vagina and perineum more supple and elastic. The massage increases blood flow to the sensitive area, and our perineum massage oil softens the skin and strengthens it with beneficial and nourishing vitamins.

Massaging the perineum with oil during pregnancy is a way to help soften the area and mentally prepare the woman for what is to come. Many women find that the massage increases their awareness of how elastic the vagina and perineum actually are, which helps to alleviate some of the anxiety about childbirth. We recommend that you apply the oil daily from week 34 to reduce the risk of tears and lacerations during delivery.

What is perineum massage?

Perineum massage, also known as perineal massage, involves massaging the perineum, the skin around the vaginal opening, about 4 – 6 weeks before childbirth to soften the area.

How to perform perineal massage?

  1. Clean hands and short nails are a good foundation when performing perineal massage. This is to prevent dirt from entering the vagina and to avoid scratching yourself.
  2. Use a good pregnancy oil that moisturizes
  3. Place a pillow or similar under your buttocks so you lie comfortably and can easily reach the perineum
  4. Massage gently with your thumbs in an up and down motion and in a U-like movement

Tip! Some find it easier to perform perineal massage in front of a mirror so they can see what they are doing.
